The Builders Care Mission

Builders Care is a faith-based construction ministry serving the Northeast Florida area. By weaving volunteer and professional labor; personal, corporate and municipal gifts, Builders Care provides critical construction services to indigent elderly and disabled people who cannot afford construction services by traditional means. We cannot continue our mission without financial support from caring people like you.

What population does Builders Care serve?

Builders Care serves the indigent in Jacksonville. Most of us are unaware that many good people of this city live in substandard conditions. Typically, this population consists of the elderly and disabled. These people may make every attempt to improve their living conditions, but can't. Quite often, 'Grandma' is left alone in bad health, living in an old deteriorating house with a lot of deferred maintenance, a low Social Security benefit and no one to help.

How is Builders Care funded?

Builders Care is funded by various means. The City of Jacksonville through the Duval County Housing Finance Authority is a major funding source. Other sources include grants and in-kind donations from NEFBA, business sponsors, churches, and, most importantly, donations from caring individuals like YOU!

What type of work is required on the houses?

Typically, emergency repairs are made that, if left unattended, could pose a threat to the family's health and/or safety. These repairs may rectify structural problems, water damage, plumbing and heating system failures, general bathroom/kitchen repairs, faulty electrical systems and extremely dangerous conditions corrected.

How does Builders Care coordinate with other resources in the community?

We feel it is important to work with other agencies that also provide services to our target population. Many of these agencies make provisions for those items or needs that we do not provide, such as transportation, meals, medical services, etc. It is important to us to be a part of the network that provides for our senior citizens.

Who is the Northeast Florida Builders Association and how is Builders Care connected with them?

NEFBA is the Northeast Florida Builders Association founded in 1944. NEFBA members are concerned and involved citizens of our community with diverse talents and resources. Builders Care is the Association's community service initiative, allowing its member's construction skills to be utilized for the good of the community.
